Best Wishes - Very Girlie

Just a quick post to show the card I made for my Mam's birthday.

This is made using pink, lilac and white card stock, lilac and silver edges corner stickers and the "One of a Kind" stamp set by Stampin' Up!.

Firstly I cut a piece of white card stock at 5 1/2" by 8 1/2" and scored it at 4 1/4" to make the base card. Then I cut a piece of pink cardstock to 5 1/2" by 4 1/4" and I randomly stamped the big flower from the "One of a Kind" stamp set all over it with pink ink to make my background and adhered to my card front.

The border piece at the top of the card is made from a piece of lilac cardstock cut at 5 1/2" by 1 1/8" and I used a scallop border punch along one side. The pink layer is cut at 5 1/2" by 1/2" and I have used the small flower stamp from the same stamp set and randomly stamped the image using pink ink.

The "Best Wishes" sentiment is stamped on a piece of white cardstock which measures 1 3/4" by 1" and I have inked the edges by running a lilac marker along the sides. This is layered onto a piece of pink cardstock which measures 1 7/8" by 1 1/8" and the bottom lilac layer is measured at 2" by 1 1/4".

Finally the flower is made by stamping the big flower from the stamp set onto a piece of white cardstock, using lilac ink and punching it out with a 1 1/4" circle punch, layered that onto a 1 3/8" circle of pink cardstock and adhered that to a lilac scallop circle. 2 corner stickers where added to the bottom corners to finish the card.

Fathers Day 2010 - Poker Style Card

I always find it hard to do masculine cards, especially for my Dad. All the theme's seem to revolve around gardening, golf, darts or football, and since my Dad isn't really a fan of any of those it gets increasingly difficult. One of the thing's my Dad does enjoy however, is poker. So I decided to make this card using an image I found online.

To make this card I used:

5 copies of this playing cards image

White cardstock
Black cardstock
Dark Green cardstock
Black corner stickers
Gold letter stickers

Scissors
Paper Trimmer
Adhesive

The first thing I did was save the above playing cards image onto my computer and resized it using a paint program to the size I wanted (this depends on how big or small you want the playing cards to be). Once I had it the size I wanted I printed out 5 copies onto white cardstock and cut them out, each time cutting off one more card. This is so I can layer them ontop of each other. For example, the first layer had all 5 playing cards, the second layer only had the J - A cards, the third layer only had the Q - A cards, the fourth layer only had the K and A cards and the fifth layer will only be the A card.

Now that I had to main image sorted I was ready to make my card.

I took a piece of white cardstock and cut it to 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" and scored it at 4 1/4" to make my card base. Then I took a piece of black cardstock and cut it to 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" and adhered it to the front of my card. The green card stock is cut at 5 1/4" x 4" and that is adhered on top of the black.

I added black corner stickers to all 4 corners to help give me an indication of where I wanted my main image to go. Next I adhered the first layer of my image (the one with all 5 playing cards) where I wanted it to go on my card. Then I adhered the second layer (the one with 4 playing cards) on top of that with normal adhesive (not foam adhesive) as I wanted it to feel as though the cards are laying on top of each other. I carried on doing this with all 5 layers, ending with just the A card on top.

Finally, I used some gold letter stickers to spell out the words "Happy Fathers Day".

Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope this gives you some ideas about using images you can find on your computer to make great cards with.
